Motivation to join this project: We’re a small country (42.508 square km) by the North-Sea with 17.2 million inhabitants. This puts lots of strain on the available space. 66% of the Netherlands lie below sea-level and without the dunes and dikes, these lands would be flooded every day at high tide. With the thread of climate changes and connected sea-level rising this is a problem getting greater every year. But the thread doubles because large parts of the Netherlands sink because of dewatering farmlands in the western parts of the land that exist of peatlands that if dewatered subside. Ede lies at the border of a National Park with heather and woodlands that gives people the opportunity to visit this area for relaxation. The deer and boar that live in these woodlands attract lots of nature lovers especially during the rutting time. In this park the conflict occurs between ecology or economy because of the growing numbers of these animals. Lots of deer and boar are hunted so that their numbers are kept low. In the Netherlands the few National Parks with deer and wild boar are too small to feed these growing herds of animals. The constant struggle on how to cope with these problems and choices between economic growth or living with what’s left of the nature in the Netherlands is something our school sees at close range. Together with its unique position in the Netherlands. At the boarder of a National Park and near the parts that’re below sea-level. The school lies in a part of the Netherlands were economic grow has made many changes in the surrounding areas. Therefore has a good view on the effects these changes have on the ecology. Key people in charge: Teachers that will carry out this project have worked in exchanges with other partners and in Erasmus+ projects before and teach geography, biology and economy. Specific experience and expertise: From the early 1990s the school organizes exchange programs with other European schools. Bilateral exchanges with Germany and France and Erasmus + projects. For the TTO department exchanges are organized with England and Greece. The school took part in Comenius Projects now called Erasmus + projects at this moment ‘Welcoming diversity at school’. We work a lot with ICT and social media at our school and therefore will be using Instagram for documenting the progress of the project.
